Phoenix Contact ESSENTIAL Edition: The Essentials for Every Cabinet

Date: 20-10-2026

Some applications call for components with extra capability, such as a power reserve to start heavy loads, signal contacts that report back to a PLC, or approvals for hazardous areas.

Other applications call for the core functions, done reliably.

Phoenix Contact's ESSENTIAL edition is built for those applications.

What is the ESSENTIAL edition?

The ESSENTIAL edition is a Phoenix Contact range built around core functions. It covers many of the components that go into a control cabinet: power, protection, connection, signal conditioning, safety and switching.

The range runs from the incoming supply through to the field devices, so much of a cabinet can come from one family.

The range is only available through select partners. Dore Electrics is one of them, as an authorised distribution partner for Phoenix Contact.

What's in the range?

Each category covers a different part of the cabinet. Here's what each one brings.

Power supplies

Single-phase models deliver 12, 24 or 48 V DC, from 60 W to 480 W. Three-phase models deliver 24 V DC at 240 W, 480 W or 960 W.

Fanless convection cooling means there's no fan to wear out. The power supplies protect themselves against overvoltage, overcurrent and excess temperature, and are rated from −20 °C to +70 °C.

Redundancy modules

ESSENTIAL DIODE modules decouple two power supplies for 100% redundancy, in 20 A and 40 A versions. Status LEDs and floating contacts report on each input, so you can see when the system is running on one supply.

Surge protection

One family covers all three levels. Type 1+2 devices sit at the incoming supply, Type 2 devices in sub-boards and control cabinets, and Type 3 devices directly upstream of the end device. Each level is available with fault indication and a remote indication contact.

Terminal blocks

The terminal block range uses screw connection, from 2.5 mm² up to 240 mm². It includes feed-through, multi-level, sensor/actuator, fuse and disconnect terminal blocks.

Phoenix Contact publishes its test results against IEC 60947-7-1/-2. The terminal blocks withstand pull-out forces up to 100% above the required minimum. Their voltage drop sits up to 60% below the limits the standard allows.

Signal conditioners

The MINI Analog signal conditioners are 6.2 mm wide and focus on the signals most commonly used, designed to cover 90% of applications. They're set up with DIP switches, without software, and inputs, outputs and power are galvanically isolated.

Safety relays

The PSR-ME20 safety relay monitors emergency stops, safety doors and light grids from one device, and the PSR-ME30 and PSR-ME40 add contact extensions. For the process industry, the PSR-PE20 and PSR-PE60 safe coupling relays are just 12.5 mm wide.

All ESSENTIAL safety relays are independently certified (TÜV), up to PL d and SIL 2 in machine building and up to SIL 3 in process applications.

Relays and timers

Phoenix Contact’s modular relay system is built on ECOR relay bases, with relays, retaining brackets and plug-in modules. Relays come with one to four changeover contacts, for input voltages from 12 V DC to 230 V AC.

The TR-ES timer relay covers time ranges from 50 milliseconds to 10 hours, set with a rotary switch on the front of the housing.

Why choose the ESSENTIAL edition?

For switchboard builders, OEMs and machine builders, the benefits add up across the whole cabinet.

  • The essentials without the high price tag. You get Phoenix Contact quality, matched to applications that need the core functions.
  • One family across the cabinet. Power, protection, connection, signals, safety and switching all come from the same range.
  • Familiar connection technology. The terminal blocks, power supplies, redundancy modules, signal conditioners and safety relays all use screw connection.
  • Proven quality. The safety relays are independently certified (TÜV), the terminal blocks are tested against IEC standards, and the power supplies protect themselves.
  • Built for worldwide use. The power supplies, redundancy modules and safety relays carry international approval packages.

When a different Phoenix Contact range fits better

The ESSENTIAL edition is built around core functions. Some applications need more than that.

If a power supply needs a power reserve to start heavy loads, signal contacts to report its status to a PLC, or approvals for hazardous areas, Phoenix Contact's wider ranges cover those jobs.

For applications built on those core functions, the ESSENTIAL edition is the practical choice.

Where to get the ESSENTIAL edition

Phoenix Contact's ESSENTIAL edition is only available through select partners.

Dore Electrics is an authorised distribution partner for the range. We're one of a select few partners based in Eastern Australia, and we ship Australia-wide.
